8 Entertaining “Play The Game” Films Like Jumanji

There are a lot of different kinds of games in existence. Some of these games include board games, video games, and social games. We love to play games alone and with friends and when one of our favorite games is turned into a movie, entertainment is always guaranteed. There are a lot of games made into movies, this list features some of our favorites. The first video game movie on our list is the new Jumanji movie known by two names: Jumanji 2 and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. This movie is the long awaited sequel to the beloved original movie of the same name.

In the first Jumanji movie, the game is brought to the players. In Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the players are pulled into the game. When four students with nothing in common end up in detention together they find a magical video game that pulls them into the unforgiving jungles of Jumanji. The kids have now become the characters they’ve chosen and they must beat the game if they want to return home. Armed with unique skills and 3 lives each, the group of teens, despite their differences, will need to find a way to work together if they all want to make it out of the game alive.

The Jumanji 2 movie is one of the best live action video game movies of the year. With a recurring game theme similar to the original, non stop adventures, funny laughs, and entertaining dance fight scenes, the Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle movie is one that the whole family will enjoy watching together. The Jumanji characters bring the movie to life and if you’re a fan of the first Jumanji film, you will be surprised by the unexpected cameos found in the story. The game in this movie comes with a twist, there are no rules, no points, and the players have no idea who the other players are. Game Night is a free for all frenzy complete with unexpected turns, fake thugs and a ton of hilarious chaos. Virtual Reality Game: Ready Player One

If your life doesn’t turn into a game, like the games turned into movies like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle on this list, a great way to bring imagined worlds into your life is through virtual reality. Ready Player One is a blend of both real life and virtual reality. This movie is about a search for a hidden Easter Egg in a virtual reality world. When the creator of this world dies and hides his treasure, the players of his game are invited to hunt for his lost fortune. Wade Watts finds the first clue and embarks on an adventure that he’ll never forget in this movie called Ready Player One. A better reality awaits in virtual reality, or does it?

Survival Game: The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games must be added to our list of games turned into movies like Jumanji. The Hunger Games isn’t a game that you’d want to play with your friends on a Friday night. This game, based on the popular books by Suzanne Collins, is a fight to the death between a group of children. In this dystopian adventure film, one child from each district is randomly chosen to compete in The Hunger Games. This tradition has been going on for a long time and everything was working just fine until Katniss Everdeen came into the picture. When Katniss volunteers to become a contestant in this survival game to the death, things are changed forever. For better or for worst. Arcade Game: Wreck It Ralph

In the 70’s and 80’s, arcade games like PacMan, Berzerk, and Defender were very popular. The popular games from our past have been brought to life in this addition to our list of best video game adaptations similar to Jumanji 2 called Wreck it Ralph. The Wreck it Ralph Disney movie is about the perfect good guy called Fix-It Felix and the bad guy that nobody loves called Wreck it Ralph. Ralph knows that he must do his job each day to please his players but he just wants to be good. He wants to win a medal too. Wreck it Ralph is about a bad guy who wants to become a hero and a glitch in the system that gives him an opportunity to save his gaming community before a “Game Over” screen appears.

Board Game: Ouija

Spirit boards, also known as Ouija boards, are believed to be a way to contact the dead. This addition to our list of “Play the Game” films like Jumanji features this spiritual board game. The Ouija movie is a horror thriller that brings a deadly communication to life. When a group of friends come across an ancient spirit board and decide to play, they never expected what was to come. Playing the Ouija board has unleashed a dark and evil power that will only be conquered by fighting their most terrifying fears. Only some will survive, watch Ouija to see who. Truth or Dare Game: Dirty Deeds


Starring: Milo Ventimiglia, Lacey Chabert, Charles Durning

Once a year, seniors are challenged to perform a list of Truth or Dares called “Dirty Deeds” in this addition to our list of films made from games. Only one has succeeded in performing them all. In 1989, a student called Duncan Rime completed all of the 8 tasks. Now, a senior called Zach and his arch enemy Dan are up against each other to complete the Dirty Deeds before the end of the night, but the deeds weren’t meant to be easy and Zach and Dan are about to encounter a lot of roadblocks along the way. This raunchy teen movie similar to American Pie is exciting and laugh out loud funny and it’s a great flick to see if you’re don’t want to watch anything too serious.

Real Life Game: Dimension 404, episode 6

The Impulse episode of Dimension 404 isn’t a movie but it’s definitely a great addition to our list of “Play the Game” films like Jumanji. Dimension 404 is an anthology series with standalone episodes so you don’t have to watch them all to keep up with the series. This episode, is the last of season 1. The Impluse episode is about a competitive girl gamer called Val. Val wants to win so she purchases an energy drink from a sketchy vendor. This energy drink helps her perform like a pro, but the consequences aren’t what Val expected. When Val comes down from her high, she wakes up to find herself in a whole new world. In a real life game to be exact. One that’s far from what she remembered. We won’t say more, not to spoil the fun, but if you like movies made into video games, you’ll love this episode of Dimension 404, guaranteed.

Ellen’s Game of Games is hosted by the beloved, hilarious and dancing talk show host, producer, writer, and actress. Ellen’s Game of Games brings all zany games we know and love from PrimeTime tv and supersizes them on her show. The contestants will get a chance to win $100,000 but first, they must test their skills and their wits with games like “In Your Face Honey”, “Make it Rain”, “Dizzy Dash”, and “Tuba Toothpaste”. If you want to spend an hour rolling over with laughter, give this addition to our list a try. This gameshow is the mother of all gameshows.
